Lately I have found the staff is poorly educated about their products and getting ruder and ruder. Today was the last straw in poor customer service and I will shop elsewhere from now on.
I went through the express line and AFTER paying for my products I had to ask for a bag. I was told "5 cents". no please, not even a proper sentence. I said that I only carry debit and need to pay with my card. He told me there is a minimum purchase for debit. I asked him to void my bill and charge me again, adding the 5 cent charge. He said he wouldn't because he was busy. I said he should have informed me of the new bag charge before I paid. In the end there was no possible way that I could purchase a bag for my products and had to carry them home in the front of my shirt with much dropping, spilling and denting of cans. I am now so angry at the poor service that I am willing to pay a taxi or delivery charge to shop elsewhere. It's too bad as Hartman's used to be my most recommended grocery store for a decade!!!!

I do not recommend this place.

Gave excellent customer service which this store is known for. I think he is a new staff member as I haven't see him there before. Nice to see new staff members adopting this!
I recommend this place.

5 out of 16 people found this review helpful. Hartman's is so much better than what it used to be, but i am starting to get strong concern about the quality of service that we, customers are now getting. New staff are so rude that i am considering more and more shopping somewhere else.
Apart from Crystal who seems to be very pleasant, polite and professional, all the other staff seem to not know how to say hello, please and thank you.
The Asian lady at the cashier is also very good each time to avoid making eye contact and not saying a word to me. I wonder if she actually knows how to speak.
So yeap, the quality of customer service is getting very, very, very low and the prices are getting very, very, very high.

I do not recommend this place.

3 out of 4 people found this review helpful. I shop there everyday and up until yesterday I thought there service was excellent when I witnessed a man in a wheelchair being physically assaulted by an employee by the name of Brice. I am not sure I want to return there.

Hartman's may not be a haven for organic local produce or indeed cater successfully to self-styled epicures, but it sure beats trying to stock the larder by shopping at the local convenience/lottery/cigarette store. Hartman's is one of the only decent full-size grocery stores accessible to those living downtown, and who through choice or circumstance cannot drive to the suburbs. And being entertained while shopping by a local musician tinkling the ivories is quite a nice touch too!
I recommend this place.

Nuts to gourmets and bargain-seekers; this place puts the "super" in supermarket, what with its miles of nationally advertised brands, which are...nationally advertised, priced as such, and which would be unlikely to sell at all if they weren't so heavily advertised.

For a real taste treat, try the 'ethnic' food sections here! Plenty of "Chinese" sugar sauce, and "Mexican" tomato sauce... Sure to be a winner when combined with the mediocre produce, too.

I do not recommend this place.
