Typical pseudo Mexican / Tex-Mex fare. I agree that the Dow’s Lake location is definitely the nicest of all the locations I have been to. I find the food to be very inconsistent between visits and locations. For the money, the portions are not huge or too huge and sadly the food more often than not is on the disappointing side. Nachos were underwhelming and you’d likely find a better rendition at any neighbourhood bar. The ones we had were soggy and the toppings sparse. The not so flavourful, bean goo was cold and rice that came with my dish was actually crunchy. The staff, though super friendly were mysteriously no where to be found when yet trying to flag one down to get drink refills or give initial feed back on the food ie. how is dinner / can I get you anything etc. After my last experience I am not sure I’d go back for a meal but their daiquiris are decent and this location’s patio is nice in the summer. Definitely one of the nicest of all the Mexicali's locations; the view of Dow's Lake is great -- making the patio exceptionally lovely in the summer. Food, as with all 'Mexi's,' is uninspired and tasty -- American Mex; fried and cheesy and good. They'd benefit from more vegetarian selections, and smaller portions with better ingredients, but this sort of stuff-yourself comfort food still goes down well. Caveat: this location, depending on time of day, can be either eerily empty, or very busy, with service what you'd expect for both situations. I recommend this place. Was this review helpful?
