I was shocked to read these comments. I have lived at Dow's Lake Towers for over 6 months now, previously having lived down the street. I moved here after spending time in a friend's unit. What the building lacks in exterior aesthetic and a fairly basic lobby, it makes up for in clean, cared-for units, that are well layed out and offer maximum potential. They are larger than comparable units in other buildings on this street. I adore the management staff here, who know me by name and are thorough in assuring that all is well. All east-facing units (half the building, essentially) boast great views of downtown, the leafy Glebe, and modern condo's between Bell and Bronson. The rent is affordable and the management offers some discount upon lease renewal. I've never had an issue with rowdiness or rude neighbours despite having neighbours on all sides. My appliances are all nice and light fixtures are just fine. The biggest selling feature of my unit is over 14 feet of east-facing windows lining the living room and dining area. I've found Dow's Lake to be considerably better than any other student-oriented apartment I have been in.

I've lived here for over a year now. Stay away from it no matter what you do. If you are lucky you might have good neighbours but they will eventually move out and you'll end up getting nasty neighbours before your lease is over anyways. My neighbour does drugs on the balcony and often has fights and drunken rage fests in his apartments. Everyone on our floor can hear them and many people have complained about them. The supers do nothing, management does nothing, and even the police do nothing. Avoid this place like the plague! Even if rent goes down $300. I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? I have only heard negative things about this cheaply-priced apartment complex. Although I have not lived there myself, everyone I have met who has either looked into living there or lived there themselves has not been happy with the living situation.

To be avoided. It may be appealingly cheap, but the apartments are no longer as outstandingly cheap as they once were for Ottawa -- and that was the sole draw, with the possible exception of some good neighbours, and a nice view from a number of the units. The walls are thin, my-neighbour-is-having-sex! thin. A building-wide roach problem is dealt with only very grudgingly and half-heartedly; there will always be a roach problem. 'Management' for any other of the problems likely to be encountered is as good as it is for the bugs. Kitchens and bathrooms are small but not completely cramped; fixtures are ugly, appliances and fittings are the cheapest possible. The location, though walking distance to Carleton, doesn't offer a great deal. I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |
