I agree with everyone who has already posted comments on this hair salon. My experience was AWFUL. Like everyone else I purchased the 50$ package thinking wow this is amazing. I work very hard at school and this is a reasonable splurge on myself. WRONG. I made an appointment for 1. I walked in ten minutes early to find everyone too busy talking amongst themselves. I finally walked up to give my name and say I had arrived and Lynn rudely brushed me off. While sitting there Lynn decided to 'be nice' to me and come talk. Where the conversation consisted of her pushing me to dye my hair and get highlights. It took me three times for me to say no for her to give up and no longer give me the time of day. It almost seemed like they were complaining about the customers who purchased these promotion cards. When all i was thinking was I have never been here before ... lets keep the possible damage to a minimal. I am not high maintenance but like to have a decent hairstyle. It took over 30 minutes of me waiting there with no acknowledgment for some male hairdresser to call me over to wash my hair (all while 4 workers sat around and chatted). He washed my hair, which was rough and unpleasant, and barely towel dried it. (The hairdresser also blamed his being late on another customer who apparently had been late -- I do not care what the reason is... just tell me you are running behind instead of ignoring me). He then asked me what i wanted ... so i said a trim, fix up my layers and cut my bangs. He literally divided my hair into four sections and cut a random amount of length. He didn't even touch my bangs (i asked him after he blow dried my hair if he could do that and he seemed bothered by the request). I had asked for my hair to be blow dried and straightened, knowing it would be extra but didn't think it would be much since the promotion card said starting at 10$. So after this 'fabulous' 5 minute hair cut.... he spent 30 minutes blow drying my hair. It was disgusting as he had to repeatedly stop in order to wipe the sweat off his face. Then when that was finally done he took the flat iron to about four small sections of my hair. My hair looked awful -- the cut was horrible and the blow dry looked ridiculous. So by that point I was annoyed and simply wanted to go and pay. All the extra I had gotten was the blow dry ... they charged me 30$!!!!! So at that point I starting to give some attitude where Lynn blamed the hairdresser for not telling me the price and knocked it down to 20$ which was still ridiculous seeing how I had to go home and straighten my hair myself. This place was ridiculous. Just sitting there was I was able to see Lynn be rude to customers who even appeared to be regulars. She told one woman to get glasses. This same woman had come back from a trip and brought her a bracelet where Lynn looked at it and said I wont wear that and threw it on the counter.... where the woman then replied well maybe you can give it to your daughter ... it is hand made charm bracelet....where Lynn didn't even reply or say thank you. I thought the point of these cards were to build a clientel??? Not to be angry with every customer who use them. I would go to first choice hair cutters before going back there. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

I bought the 50$ package thinking Wow that is a GOOOD Deal. I made an appoitment and was actually happy to go there. Unfortunately I didn't bother checking out any reviews for the Salon. I get there and the first thing that comes to my head is that the picture of the salon on the package actually looked good. In reality this place was Not preety at all. There was water on the ground and a bunch of men just sitting there eating. Any how, Lynn gets me to hang up my coat and get this girl to wash my hair. Here comes the bad part. Washing: The girl dug her nails into my scalp while washing my hair. I took a shower earlier that day clearly my hair wasn't dirty. On top of that Her hair was long and on my face going into my eyes and mouth. Lynn decided that she was taking too long and decided to finish up the washing. I thought that the girl was bad, boy was I wrong Lynn with her long nails was REALLY digging into my scalp. My shirt was ALL wet even with the cloth around me. Cutting: I was sitting on the seat cold with water dripping all around me. She asked me what I wanted and I told her to cut off an INCH only with layers. My hair was long up to my belly button. After she was done my hair was up to my shoulder :( and on top of that She was thining my hair. I told her to stop half way because I never asked for it. I was the only customer there and all the people just chilling there were just sitting and stairing at me. It was uncomfortable. To put the cherry on top she charged for blow drying and tip. I left the salon with a Massive headache cuz of all the pulling. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!! I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

My friend bought the 50 dollar package for both her and I. We got our appointments and found out the day before our appointment about these bad reviews. Since we didn't want to waste our money and we were both hyped up for some haircare, we went in spite of the advice of others. The overall look of the "spa" was a very run down, bad appearance. I could hardly even find the entrance because I couldn't believe how run down it was. We both went in anyways... We saw Lynn Dam and another being very friendly with two customers (older customers - mid aged and one of them was a regular) I was optimistic and hoped to get the same service. When it was our turn to be "beautified" we got seated and as soon as they saw we had the coupon books they started pressuring us into buying all the extras and overall treating us like crap. I didn't cave in because I am a very loud, bossy person and I stood up for my friend who is very shy and conservative. We decided on highlights which was my previous decision before entering the salon. I had dyed my hair out of the box and Lynn Dam insulted my hair color and style. She said it was "no good" and "very badly done, very uneven" to try to get me to dye my hair fully before highlighting it. I only got half of the things I was supposed to, as said on the certificate I have... Lynn Dam's attitude was very pushy, bossy, and overall very abrassive.. She was nice when I initiated conversation, but most of the time talked in her native tongue to her other employees. She ignored me many times to the point I yelled at her to get her to listen to me. I had to brush my hair, yes.. *I* had to brush my hair..., when she was done dying it and my highlights dripped on my face. She charged me for things I didn't ask for like blow drying, expert style... I had highlights and a trim and the trim was included in the package. My total came to over 120$ and they had the guts to ask me for a tip... You could tell she was used to getting dis-satisfied customers because when I confronted her she shriveled up. Also.. While I was in the store a middle aged man came in and said he is bringing the salon to court to give her what she deserves. Very interesting experience. My hair wasn't bad, surprisingly... I like it a lot, but the prices were outrageous, the customer service was non existant... I felt worse than when I went in.. I would not recommend anyone to go to this salon unless they know exactly how to treat scum to get what they want. I could go to a way cheaper hair place and get the haircut she gave me and be happy with way more than just my hair. I do not recommend this place. Do not go to this place unless you know exactly the BS you are getting yourself into. Tell her exactly what you want and tell her you want nothing extra.. Make sure you get the exact price before she does it. I think she is, in fact, a scam artist who will play you for your money after she has already done you the unsatisfactory services. I have plenty more bad things to say about this place, but I will cut it short because it just makes me mad. BTW - Jo N, Do you work at the salon? Enough said. I do not recommend this place. Hey everyone after reading all of these reviews I decided not to go bother going to the salon especially after seeing it and going with a friend! I e-mailed Ad-efx (think thats the company that does the advertising)to the e-mail on the back of your certificate thing that they check all your appointments off of and they responded with in 2 hours. The have offered a switch of salons or a refund. So look into that don't waste your money... I know that we are all students and don't have a lot of money anyway so do what you can to get a better spa... or just get your money back. I hope that this helps!

I 100% agree with the previous posts, my friend and I were also tricked into this ridiculous 'deal' We were told we were 2 of the "20 lucky ladies" although there are posts on here from over a year ago? We went in to get our hair cut, and of course they booked us at the same time, when my friend decided against the 'expert style' Lynn didn't even blow dry her hair, she left with wet hair in the freezing cold. They were rude, unprofessional, understaffed and way too pushy on their upgrades. Having just highlighted my hair last week I decided against the upgrade for highlights, she proceeded to tell me that I need them, when I persisted in refusing her happy demeanor quickly disappeared as she rushed finishing our 2 hair cuts in under 30 minutes. I still have no idea where the hell my complimentary beverage is... Save your money, this place is a disaster. I won't be returning for my remaining three appointments.

Yup, it's terrible. I got my nails done here twice, and they turned yellow within two days each time. The girl who does nails there is nice enough, but Lynn herself is a pretty gruff lady. Once when money was a factor, I went to her for highlights, and she did a TERRIBLE job. It was like she didn't know what she was doing. Instead of starting to apply the bleach at the roots, She slopped it all over the hair, and globs of it got on my scalp and burned. The highlights ended up as you would suspect... the bottom was much lighter than where the roots were. Eugh. She was extremely rushed the entire time and appeared to have 3 people all booked to come in at the same time. The nail girl had to finish drying and flat-ironing my hair (badly) and then I was still changed for this "expert blowdry" crap! And I saved the best for last. I got my eyebrows waxed there after the highlights, thinking that would be alright. Instead, I actually got a staph blood infection on my face where the wax was and had to go to the hospital to get intravenous antibiotics. My face was completely swollen... i could barely see through my eyelids. My face was oozing pus between my eyebrows and skin was coming off in giant chunks. I looked disgusting, and felt disgusting. The staph had somehow made it's way into my skin through Lynn's contaminated wax? or was it the black pencil she used in my (blonde) eyebrows to "help her see where to wax better"? Who knows. All I can say is that you NEED to stay away from this salon. This place should definitely be shut down. I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

Last month my friend and I were on a coffee break from work when we were approached by a very attractive girl with an even more attractive smile. She asked if we wanted an "EXCLUSIVE" beauty spa package that included a manicure, haircut, colour treatment, and facial. For $50, how could we say no? It looked legit. She had one of those wireless automatic debit machines so we paid up and went our merry way. As soon as we got back to the office I looked up the name of the salon -- "LYNN DAM" -- and found these other unpleasant reviews. Looks like we'd been had. I tried to be optimistic but it just got worse from there. We couldn't book our appointment over the phone. We actually had to walk in to book our appointment. When we initially called, it didn't ring, it went straight to voicemail without any indication of them ever being reachable by phone. After two weeks, they still hadn't returned our message. While we were there booking our appointment, the salon lady tried to pressure us into "upgrading" our manicure (which wasn't a REAL manicure, btw, that required an upgrade) but we were totally against it, even after she dropped the price. She even said at one point that the whole purpose of offering these deals is so that customers WILL upgrade, otherwise what was the point? Um. Excuse me?!?! We had been sold on the idea that the upgrades were, like most upgrades -- an OPTION, not a REQUIREMENT. Because of our decision, we received the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a hair salon. She booked the appointments anyway. When I went in for my "manicure," the atmosphere was incredibly unfriendly. It was like a vacuum of hate and despair. Not exactly the kind of thing you want when you're having parts of your body beautified, right? The salon itself is also HORRIBLE, though the studio picture they have on the certificate is deceivingly nice and ritzy looking. In reality, it is in my opinion that Lynn Dam studio is the trashiest salon I have ever seen, both inside and out. I doubt many people are anyone is enticed to go in there when walking down Bank Street. I never went back for a second treatment, much like the other reviewers. Why should I trust someone who seems to hate everyone and everything with something as delicate and precious as my hair? She'd turn it into a hate cut and I would be a walking advertisement for the horror that is Lynn Dam Studio. Ladies of the Ottawa region: If you are EVER approached by a pretty young lass with an EXCLUSIVE beauty spa deal for $50, say no. Say no and walk away. Worst. Waste. Of money. Ever. (The reason I post about this now is because I saw another sales lady trying to sell the package to two girls on campus today, and I intervened to tell them how horrible it was, to the shock of the sales lady. She said I was rude. It was awesome.) I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

Lynn has been my hair stylist for the past 11 years. She can be gruff. If you need a best friend go elsewhere. I haven't found anyone I trust more with my hair. Cut, style, colour, you name it, she does it and I LOVE it! It's not a hoity, toitey salon with insane prices. She gets the job done! :) I recommend this place. Was this review helpful? I uploaded the above picture. It is a picture of my friend after going to this salon. I've never seen her hair styled like that before! She looks like the spitting image of Samantha from Bewitched...a 60's show! And I have filed a complaint against this salon at the Better Business Bureau and I will also file a complaint against the company AD EFX who scammed us all. Apparently this company has had many complaints and sometimes they'll promote salons that don't even exist! I do not recommend this place. Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report as Spam |

I also had a terrible experience! Only went for my first visit because of the awful experience. I had upgraded, and got colour and was charged $80! I asked if this was with the 20% off and she proceeded to show me the math..adding $10 for the "expert style" of a blow dry where she didn't even use a brush! Also, I had made an appointment for my friend (because I bought 2 of those horrible certificates) and she wasn't going to upgrade so Lynn Damm canceled the appointment on her saying the other girl got sick. I find this unacceptable and will be filing complaints to the BBB and Ad Efx. The more people that complain the more likely to make a difference! I do not recommend this place. Everything that you said is so true!! I had a very similar experience: rude attitude from Lynn Dam, Filthy environment, poor services, etc. Oh but did you get your complimentary beverage? We didn't...we told them at the end that we had never received our complimentary beverage...she hesistantly said, "oh well we have coffee or tea". Not even being able to see the coffee maching, I shook my head and she then added that she also had water and pointed to an old 80's water cooler with pointed cone paper cups.Lovely! On top of that, my sister was charged for a blow dry and I was charged for an expert cut. We clearly stated in the beginning that we did not want to upgrade. But they didn't listen. We didn't realize that a trim and a "quick dry" was considered the same as an expert style. We were charged 10 dollars each. :( However, one good thing came out of this...their debit machine wasn't working after she bent my debit card and swiped it upside down 20 times...so we didn't have to pay for one of the 10 dollar fees. The woman wrote on the certificate that we owed 10 dollars but we are not going to our 3 other visits. I'd rather pitch the whole thing then waste my time at a grungy salon. I will be complaining to Ad efx (the company who promoted these certificates) even though it states that there is no refund. And now I will never buy any services if there is no refund policy especially if you don't get the services beforehand!

I have to agree with the first review. I actually found this review as i googled to see if anyone else had written a review about the poor servies of Lynn Dam. Everything written above describes the service both my mother and i recieved from this salon. (I purchased two of those certificates). WASTE OF $$$ for sure! I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm even considering reporting them to the BBB. I don't want anyone else falling for their lies!!!

I was deeply disappointed with the salon's mediocre service. This salon lacks professionalism and Lynn Dam is very rude to her clients Let me explain myself. I purchased a 50$ deal package that includes a hair-cut, mini-manicure, mini facial and 5 foils (spread out over 4 visits). These promotion packages are supposed to offer you a preview of the salon's services, in order to make you want to come back and become a regular customer. However, all Lynn does the whole time you are there is make reproaches about you not deciding to 'upgrade' and pay more for extra services that you do not want, nor did sign up for. The first time I entered the salon, Lynn was all smiles, polite and all. As soon as I mentioned I would not be upgrading to the "expert cut" (10$ extra), blow-drying (10$ extra), more foils and buying products, she completely changed her approach. She rushed a hundred miles an hour to get me out of her salon as quickly as possible. The deal states you will receive <deep conditioning and clarifying treatment, stress relieving scalp massage, custom cut, shampoo and quick dry>. I timed her and she sloppily proceeded to give me the aforementioned services in less than ten minutes (all the while yelling at her colleagues in Vietnamese and COMPLETELY ignore me). A salon is supposed to be a soothing, relaxing place, but I came out of the salon even more stressed than before entering. And this is only the beginning of things... About my second visit... Lynn calls once to reschedule it: her aesthetician had "an family emergency" and cannot come in. So I give her the benefice of the doubt, and reschedule it for the next week. The next week, one hour before my visit, she calls and this time, there's a very vague story about her aesthetician’s "car getting broken in." Fed up, I tell her this is the last time I reschedule, and that I will have to ask for a refund the next time she cancels (off course they make you pay the 50$ before getting all the services). So I reschedule it for the second time. The day I'm supposed to come in, I cannot believe my eyes: she calls to reschedule again and I listen to another story about her aesthetician’s adventures!!! I tell her this is unacceptable, lacks professionalism, and that I will have not choice than to demand a refund, since she is not giving me the services I paid for. And suddenly, she says I can come in as planned, "no problem, no problem"... And the saga goes on. I am so frustrated that I will not continue this nightmare of a narration... I just want to add that the icing on the cake is that Lynn actually blatantly ROLLS HER EYES when I come in!!! I am sure that I'm not the only one she does this to, as I am the 541st person to have purchased this "deal package" So if you want great customer service, the Lynn Dam salon is the place to go... P.S There are many things to learn from this nightmare: if something seems too good to be true, than IT IS! The "Ad Efx" company has a very convincing representative approach you and tell you there's this professional salon offering a special deal to 20 lucky ladies. They tell you about all these wonderful services you'll be getting and slowly but surely convince you that this "package" is the best thing since sliced bread. Then, you're supposed to pay this representative on site because off course, this deal will be gone tomorrow... So don't be stupid like me and cave in!!! I do take responsibility in being stupid enough to think I was going to be getting the services I paid for. I hope no one repeats my mistakes... I do not recommend this place.
