Bird and mammal displays and dinosaur galleries remain closed until renovations are complete, but visitors can explore dino fossils at a special station and chat with an educator. The museum will close this fall for renovations, and there will be a grand re-opening of the museum's west side on Oct. 20. Then, visitors will be able to explore numerous newly renovated galleries, including: the Talisman Energy Fossil Gallery, where the dramatic events that led to the demise of the dinosaurs are brought to life through over 300 specimens, several life-sized, 3-D dinosaur scenes, and an Extinction Theatre which features a special effects-ridden show that helps visitors understand the massive asteroid collision that decimated the dinosaurs; and the Mammal Gallery, which features 15 heritage dioramas which take the visitor on a journey to some of Canada's most stunning wildlife habitats. On view from Oct. 20 to Jan. 14, 2007: 'Einstein' is an international travelling show which reveals the big and small details of the scientific icon's life, politics, and theories through reproductions of his manuscripts as well as personal effects, and letters. Closed Mondays. $5; families: $13; children under 4: free. Free admission until noon on Saturday.

This is an excellent place to explore archaeology with friends or with your children. Educators are on hand to answer all of your questions and those of the little ones too. Check the status of the renovations and museum hours before visiting.
